Crafted to honor the moment Dr. Miles Stevens earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Indiana University, the drink began as a one-time batch for a family celebration. Miles was the first in the family to earn a research doctorate—an academic milestone achieved with a full scholarship and a prestigious faculty appointment at Morehouse College— the alma mater of both father and son.
In tribute, his father set out to create the perfect Old Fashioned—something as refined and meaningful as the occasion it marked. From their home in Louisville, Kentucky, where the family has lived for thirty years, he began carefully experimenting with premium bourbon, Demerara syrup, and bitters, he hand-bottled the final version for a private gathering. When it came time to label the bottles, he found inspiration in a clever, intentional play on words: Old PhasioneD™.
The name struck a chord. Guests immediately caught the reference. The drink vanished quickly. They even shared and emptied the reserved bottle. That night, the conversation flowed between admiration for Dr. Stevens and praise for Old PhasioneD™—the drink created in his name.
